Maybe that's the key to the museums of the future - that they transform into places where people find answers and then questions rather than questions and then answers...?Lydiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00234914011811911859noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387273634716925988.post-68042127571931779702009-05-08T20:48:00.000-07:002009-05-08T20:48:00.000-07:00Thanks for running these numbers, Allyson! I'm very curious how they will compare to next year's tallies.

It was something of a wake-up call to compare the number and relative quality of the #aam09 tweets to those related to the Museums and the Web conference (#mw2009). Here's hoping that more museum professionals see the value of this tool and elect to use it liberally (though judiciously) at future conferences...CreativeMerchttp://creativemerc.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387273634716925988.post-40693090247852483622009-05-07T13:31:00.000-07:002009-05-07T13:31:00.000-07:00It rained all weekend during AAM so I kept an eye ...It rained all weekend during AAM so I kept an eye on the tweets for most of the run of the conference. Your analysis of the tweets runs true to my experience. That said, I was able to connect to tweeters, expand my community, link to some of the presentations, get a sense of some of the buzz, and in a small way be at the conference on some level from a very far distance.

What I hope for in the future is that folks learn how to more effectively cover sessions for those on the outside. There are a few tweeters who understand how to send out messages that quote a speaker so you know whose voice is being heard. The best tweets not only cite but also add insights. Good messages are gifts.

At the same time and really with no surprise my conference experience had huge holes. For example, the tech folks did dominate the tweeting. We will know that this platform has succeeded when content topics spread out to cover more of the field.

I could go on...but if I did, I should craft my own blog post.Susannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387273634716925988.post-15384068792140584472009-05-04T05:55:00.000-07:002009-05-04T05:55:00.000-07:00I completely agree with you! The Mark Twain House & Museum currently charges $14 per adult to tour the house. As much as I can tell my boss that I dislike that, he can turn around and show me that while our attendance is down, our revenue is up. The people who can afford it are still able to afford it, it seems. But I have talked him into doing some free or heavily discounted days! So I'm getting somewhere! The Mark Twain House & Museumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02239518194307832578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387273634716925988.post-63492097446863771482009-05-04T04:11:00.000-07:002009-05-04T04:11:00.000-07:00Glad it was helpful, Lynda!Glad it was helpful, Lynda!Allyson Lazarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01302318897832621133noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387273634716925988.post-68683622986080684062009-05-03T22:51:00.000-07:002009-05-03T22:51:00.000-07:00Thanks for this post Allyson. Sometimes you'll want to interact with the stuff, sometimes with people. Think about the reality of your previous days: lots of talking which makes me not surprised that you wanted to escape into that lovely looking mind-set.

There isn't just one way we experience museums. I think it is important for museums to offer options and models for our visitors so they understand that they can interact or not when they visit.Susannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387273634716925988.post-29856966225400953982009-05-01T07:29:00.000-07:002009-05-01T07:29:00.000-07:00Yep, these were all officially presented in the "M...Yep, these were all officially presented in the "Museum Technologies and Trends on the Horizon" session. The "collection systems" item on the current list of technologies was actually a little contested. One speaker felt that collection systems should just be "part of the furniture" at this point, but another speaker pointed out that they are still evolving by leaps and bounds so that's why it was appropriate to include them.Allyson Lazarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01302318897832621133noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387273634716925988.post-15929861762572762902009-05-01T06:19:00.000-07:002009-05-01T06:19:00.000-07:00Thanks Allyson.
